A Welcome from the Dean

A Welcome from the Dean

It is both a privilege and an enormous personal pleasure to welcome you to the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at Bede University.

Since taking up my appointment as the new Dean, I have been struck by the tremendous potential of our academic community. My role, as I see it, is to enable others to flourish.

I believe that leadership begins with listening. Over recent months, I have listened to colleagues across the Faculty and encountered an extraordinary range of views, experiences and aspirations. What has emerged from these conversations is a moment of real possibility.

Embracing Opportunity

We are operating in an increasingly competitive landscape. To succeed, we must be willing to challenge assumptions, rethink traditional structures and position ourselves in ways that build upon our existing strengths while embracing new opportunities.

For me, the future of our Faculty is not simply about numbers. Numbers have their place, but they can never tell the whole story. What matters is the narrative: who we are, what we stand for and, most importantly, who we aspire to become.

Shaping Our Future

My own career has taken me from Cambridge and ethnographic research in Papua New Guinea into senior academic leadership. These experiences have reinforced my conviction that successful institutions must be prepared to change.

We must ensure that resources are deployed in ways that maximise their potential and that our collective efforts are aligned with a shared vision of excellence.

I look forward to working with colleagues and students to make Bede the student destination of choice.
